Directions

Mix the sugar and water and stir over low heat until melted.
When it starts to boil, add the cream of tartar, mixed with a little cold water.
Boil now, without stirring, until it forms a soft ball when tested in cold water.
Add dates and coconut and boil again to soft ball stage.
Remove from heat and beat till thick.
Add vanilla.
Pour into greased pan about 1" thick.
Mark squares and leave to get cold.
