Date Squares Recipe
Ingredients
| Dates | 1 Pound | |
| Water | 3 Tablespoon | |
| Lemon juice | 1 Tablespoon | |
| Self-raising flour- 7 oz | ||
| Bran | 1 Ounce | |
| Butter | 4 Ounce | |
| Caster sugar | 3 Ounce | |
| Egg | 1 | |
| Milk | 1 Tablespoon | |
Directions
GETTING READY
1. . Start by preheating the oven to 350°F
2. Take the dates, chop and stone them
MAKING
3. In a saucepan, place the dates along with water and lemon juice, cook for 5 minutes, and stir till mixture becomes paste, leave aside to cool down
4. In a mixing bowl, place flour and bran, take butter and rub with the flour mixture to mkae it look like breadcrumbs, then add sugar 2 oz,egg, yolk and milk to the dough, place the dough and knead it till it becomes smooth.
5. Take the dough and divide into half, place one half of dough on a tin and sprinkle date over it then cover the dates with the next half of dough
6. In a bowl, place egg white and whisk it lightly with a fork, brush the mixture over top of dough and sprinkle with sugar
7. Finally bake for 30-35 minutes , once bake cut the dough into squares, cut it while it's hot, leave the dough in the tin to cool it down before serving
