Date Slices Recipe
Ingredients
| Dates | 225 Gram, chopped | |
| 225 g -8 oz softened butter | ||
| Water | 6 Fluid Ounce | |
| 115 g - 4 oz rolled oats | ||
| 150 g - 5 oz wholemeal flour | ||
| Clear honey | 2 Tablespoon | |
| Allspice | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
Directions
In a small saucepan, simmer the dates in the water until the dates are soft.
Mash together with a fork until it's like a pulp then cool completely.
In a medium sized bowl, put the oats, the sifted flour and butter.
Using your finger tips rub the butter until it resembles coarse fine bread crumbs.
Prepare a 20 cm - 8 inch shallow cake tin by greasing it lightly with melted butter.
Divide the mixture into two and press down half of the mixture evenly and firmly into the tin.
Combine the honey and spice with the date pulp and spread evenly over the mixture already in the tin.
Spread the remaining half of the mixture and press down firmly before baking in the pre heated oven.
After almost 25-30 minutes take out of the oven and cut into sharp slices.
They will be soft and crumbly whilst still hot but when cooled will harden slightly as the mixture sets.
