1 Preheat the oven to 350°fahrenheit.
2 In large mixer bowl, add dates, nuts, and Crisco.
3 Pour in 1 cup boiling water.
4 Thoroughly beat until Crisco breaks into small lumps.
5 Let cool to lukewarm,for about 15 minutes.
6 Add in sugar, vanilla, and egg, mixing well.
7 In a bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, soda, and salt.
8 Combine with the date mixture and beat well.
9 Pour into 9x5x3-inch loaf pan.
10 Bake for 1 hour.
11 Let cool thoroughly and slice.
