Directions

Preheat oven to 350°F. Butter and flour 9 x 13-inch baking pan. Set aside. In small bowl, stir together 1/2 cup flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

In large mixing bowl at high speed, beat together eggs and sugar until light and fluffy, about 5 to 10 minutes. Add orange peel and juice. Beat until well combined. Reduce mixer speed to low. Gradually add reserved flour mixture, beating just until combined. Stir in dates and pecans until evenly distributed. Pour into prepared pan and spread evenly.

Bake until cake tester inserted near center comes out clean, about 30 to 35 minutes. Cool in pan 10 minutes. Cut into 24 bars, about 2 x 2 1/4-inch each. If you like, shake confectioners’ sugar from a shaker jar or spoon it through a strainer to dust the tops of the cut bars.
