Ingredients

 Orange1 Medium
 200 g - 7 oz plain brown flour
 115 g - 4 oz soft light brown sugar
 25 g - 1 oz wheatgerm
 Baking powder1 Teaspoon
 Soda bicarbonate1 Teaspoon
 Orange juice4 Tablespoon
 55 g - 2 oz vegetable margarine
 Egg1
 85 g - 3 oz chopped dates

Directions

Take the orange and grate the rind into a bowl.
Add the sifted flour, sugar, wheat germ, baking powder and the soda.
Rub the sugar into the mixture until it resembles fine breadcrumbs.
Peel the orange and separate into segments, then take the pips out.
In a blender pour in the juice, add the orange, margarine, egg and dates and blend for 7-8 minutes.
Pour this onto the dry mixture and stir carefully, until everything is just mixed.
Grease a 12 hole, bun tin with melted margarine and spoon this mixture carefully into the tin.
Bake in the centre of a pre heated oven for almost 20 minutes or until cooked.
Don't allow the oven to be opened during this process.
When baked lift the edges carefully with a sharp knife and cool on a tray.
Eat warm drizzled with honey if you like.
