Date Cake Recipe
Ingredients
| Applesauce | 16 Ounce | |
| 1 Pkg. Pitted Dates, cut up | ||
| Baking soda | 3/4 Teaspoon | |
| Unsifted flour | 1/2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Salt | 1/4 Teaspoon | |
| Shortening | 1/2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| 1 Cup Plus 2 Tbs. Sugar | ||
| Eggs | 2 | |
| 6 Oz. Pkg. Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips | ||
| 1/2 Cup Chopped Walnut Meats | ||
Directions
Grease and flour a baking pan 13x9x2".
In a medium saucepan, bring applesauce to a boil, remove from heat, stir in dates and 1 tsp.soda.
Cool.
On waxed paper, thoroughly stir together the flour, remaining 3/4 tsp soda and the salt.
In a large mixing bowl cream shortening and 1 c.sugar; stir in applesauce mixture.
Turn into prepared pan.
Stir together the remaining 2 tbs sugar, chocolate chips and nuts.
Sprinkie over cake batter.
Bake in preheated 350 degree oven until a cake tester inserted in center comes out free of batter.
