Directions
1 Clean and wash the dal (lentils).
2 In a bowl, let the dal soak for a little while.
MAKING
3 In a thick saucepan, heat the butter.
4 Add in the sliced onions, ginger and the herbs, fry for a few minutes.
5 Add in the turmeric, salt and chilli powder.
6 Mix well and add in the sliced tomatoes.
7 As it begins to sizzle, add it to the washed and drained dal.
8 Stir for about eight minutes, and pour in hot water.
9 Bring it to a boil, and let it simmer for 30-40 minutes.
10 Add in the garam masala towards the last few minutes of cooking.
SERVING
11 Serve hot, garnished with fresh coriander leaves
