Dal Toovar Recipe
Ingredients
| Toovar dal-2 cups | ||
| Fenugreek leaves-1 bunch | ||
| Raw peanuts-25 grams | ||
| Tamarind-1 small ball | ||
| Green chilies | 4 | |
| Coriander leaves-Handful | ||
| Jaggery | 1 Tablespoon, grated | |
| Garam masala | 1 Tablespoon | |
| Mustard seeds | 1 Teaspoon | |
| Turmeric powder | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| Asafoetida-A pinch | ||
| Coconut | 1 Tablespoon, grated | |
| Salt and chilli powder -to taste | ||
| Ghee | 2 Tablespoon | |
| Salt | To Taste | |
Directions
GETTING READY
1) Soak peanuts in some water about 30 minutes before you start cooking. Drain water and peel them.
2) Soak tamarind in water and make pulp.
3) Soak toovar dal few hours before you start cooking.
4) Soak fenugreek in water and salt for 15-20 minutes. Discard water later.
MAKING
5) Cook the dal with fenugreek, turmeric and peanuts until it is almost done. Remove from heat and keep aside.
6) Now, add salt, chillies, tamarind, jaggery and chilli powder to the dal and cook until dal is done.
7) Take a wok and heat ghee. Add mustard, asafoetida and let it splatter. Then add garam masala.
8) Pour it over dal.
SERVING
9) Garnish the dal with coconut and coriander leaves and serve with rice or chapatti.
