Ingredients

 
1 cup of yellow lentils also known as pigeon peas
 
2 1/2 cup of boiling water
 
1 table spoon of salt
 
1/2 table spoon of turmeric
 
1/2 table spoon of red ground pepper
 
1/2 table spoon of ginger garlic paste
 
2 table spoon of oil
 
1 teasponn of cumin seeds

Directions

Soak yellow lentils in boiling water for 1 hour
Drain the water
Add lentils to the pressure cooker
Add 2 1/2 cups of boiling water
Add all the spices except cumin seeds and oil
Close the pressure cooker and cook on high heat till pressure builds
Turn off the heat, do not release the pressure let the cooker sit on the stove
Open pressure cooker when safe and transfer the soup / cooked Dhaal to a dish
Heat oil and add cumin seeds, when cumin seeds turn dark brown garnish the Dhaal with oil and cumin seeds
Tip - you can cook the Dhaal ahead, but try to garnish it just before serving. It taste much better with fresh garnishing
