1 head red leaf lettuce or romaine, torn
 
2 cups torn fresh spinach
 
1 11-ounce can mandarin orange sections, chilled and drained
 
1 cup seedless grapes, halved
 
1/2 cup slivered or sliced almonds, toasted
 
1/4 cup salad oil
 
1/4 cup white wine vinegar
 
2 tablespoons packed brown sugar
 
2 tablespoons snipped fresh chives or thinly sliced green onion tops
 
1 clove garlic, minced
 
1 1/2 to 2 teaspoons curry powder
 
1 teaspoon soy sauce
 
1 avocado, peeled, seeded, and sliced (optional)

Directions

1 In a large salad bowl toss together the lettuce, spinach, orange sections, grapes, and almonds.
2 For the dressing, in a screw-top jar combine salad oil, vinegar, brown sugar, chives or onion tops, garlic, curry powder, and soy sauce. Cover and shake well.
3 Just before serving, toss some of the dressing with the salad. If desired, garnish with avocado slices. Pass remaining dressing.
