Cream the butter and sugar together until fluffy.
Gradually beat in the egg yolk, then the currants and flour to form a stiff dough.
Knead gently for 3 minutes.
Roll out to about .75 cm./ 1/4 in.thick and cut into 5 cm./ 2 in.circles with a pastry cutter.
Put the circles, well spaced apart, on a well-greased baking sheet.
Put into the oven preheated to moderate (180°C/350°F or Gas Mark 4) and bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until lightly browned and firm to touch.
