Crunchy Fruit Squares Recipe
Ingredients
| Walnuts | 2 Ounce (For the crunchy pastry) | |
| Plain flour | 12 Ounce (For the crunchy pastry) | |
| Salt | 1/4 Teaspoon (Leveled) (For the crunchy pastry) | |
| Castor sugar- 1 dessertspoon | ||
| Margarine | 3 Ounce (For the crunchy pastry) | |
| Cooking fat- 3 oz | ||
| Cold water | 6 Tablespoon (For the crunchy pastry) | |
| Mincemeat | 1 Pound (For the filling) | |
| Icing sugar | ||
| Canned or glace cherries- 18 | ||
Directions
GETTING READY
1. Start by preheating the oven to 400°F
2. Take the walnuts and chop them finely
MAKING
3. In a bowl, sift the flour along with the salt and sugar, then add the fat and rub it in the mixture until it resembles breadcrumbs, now add walnuts and keep mixing to a stiff paste with water
4. On a flavored board, place the mixture and knead quickly and continually until the it becomes smooth, now divide the mixture into 2 parts
5. On a greased baking tray, place the pieces into a rectangle
6. Now take the mincemeat and spread it on the edges,make sure you spread within 1/2 inch of the edges, pour water over the edges to moisten it, now cover the pieces with the pastry
7. Use your fingers to press the edges together to seal it, with the help of the back of a knife knock it up
8. Finally bake at 400°F for 30 minutes, till the pieces turn pale golden in colour
9. Once baked completely, cut the pieces into squares while they are still warm
9. Use icing sugar to dust the tops, and place a cherry in the centre of each piece
