 Shortening1 Cup (16 tbs)
 Sugar1/4 Cup (16 tbs)
 Egg1
 Almond extract1/4 Teaspoon
 Flour1/4 Cup (16 tbs)
 Salt1/2 Teaspoon
 Toasted slivered almonds1/2 Cup (16 tbs)
 Cherries1/2 Cup (16 tbs), candied
 Flaked coconut1/2 Cup (16 tbs)
 Semi-sweet chocolate package1
 Simply Sweet Glaze
 Sliced candied cherries for garnish
 1 tablespoon butter or or margarine
 Milk1 Tablespoon (Simply Sweet Glaze:)
 Powdered sugar1 Cup (16 tbs), sifted (Simply Sweet Glaze:)

Directions

Grease a 16" x 11" baking pan; set aside.
Preheat oven to 375° (190°C).
In a large mixer bowl, cream shortening and sugar until light and creamy.
Beat in egg and almond extract.
Add flour, baking powder and salt; mix well.
Stir in almonds, candied cherries, coconut and chocolate pieces.
Spread in prepared pan.
Bake 20 minutes.
Cool slightly.
While baking, prepare Simply Sweet Glaze.
Drizzle glaze over warm cake.
Cut into 1" x 2" bars.
Garnish each bar with a cherry slice.
Simply Sweet Glaze: In a small saucepan, melt butter or margarine with milk over low heat.
Remove from heat.
Stir in powdered sugar until creamy.
