1 cup fine dry bread crumbs
 
1/4 cup (1/8 lb.) butter or margarine, melted
 
Choice of seasonings:
 
Minced parsley, chives, or onion; shredded cheese; sieved or chopped hard-cooked egg

Directions

Either buy bread crumbs or prepare them this way: With a rolling pin, roll crisp dry bread slices between sheets of waxed paper or in a plastic bag until fine. Or crush and whirl the dried bread in the blender to make fine crumbs.
Mix crumbs with melted butter.
If you want to brown them, spread on a shallow baking pan and put in a 300° oven.
Stir often for 10 minutes, or until browned.
Add your choice of seasonings.
