Ingredients

 
1 3-to-4-lb (1.5 to 2 kg) cross rib roast
 
2 tbsp (30 ml) margarine
 
1 tsp (5 ml) salt
 
1/2 tsp (2 ml) pepper
 
2 tsp (10 ml) sugar
 
1 small unpeeled lemon, thinly sliced
 
2 onions, thinly sliced
 
2 garlic cloves, minced
 
1/4 cup (60 ml) chili sauce
 
1 cup (250 ml) hot tea
 
1/2 tsp (2 ml) basil
 
1 tsp (5 ml) savory

Directions

Place the meat in an 8-cup (2 l) ceramic or glass baking dish.
Mix together the margarine, salt, pepper and sugar.
Spread the meat with the mixture.
Cover with lemon slices.
Mix the remaining ingredients together and pour over the meat.
Cover tightly with the dish lid or plastic wrap.
Microwave 20 minutes at HIGH.
Turn the meat, cover and microwave 30 minutes at MEDIUM.
Turn and baste meat with the juice accumulated in the dish.
Cover and microwave 20 minutes at MEDIUM.
Check doneness with a fork.
If the roast is tender, cover and let stand 20 minutes before serving.
It will remain warm.
