 3/4 cup soft shortening
 Firmly packed brown sugar1 Cup (16 tbs)
 Egg1
 1/4 cup molasses Sugar

Directions

Combine flour, salt, soda, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger.
Mix shortening with brown sugar and egg until light and fluffy.
Mix in molasses, then flour mixture.
Refrigerate at least 1 hour.
Shape dough into 1-inch balls; dip one side of each into sugar.
Place with sugar-coated sides up 3 inches apart on greased cookie sheets.
Sprinkle each cookie with a few drops of water.
Bake at 375 ° for 10 to 12 minutes, or until done.
