Creamed Turnips Recipe
Ingredients
| Small turnips - 2 pounds | ||
| Onions | 1 Cup (16 tbs), thinly sliced | |
| Unbleached flour | 1 1/2 Tablespoon | |
| Skim milk | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Dried thyme | 1/4 Teaspoon | |
| Nutmeg | 1/4 Teaspoon, grated | |
| Black pepper | 1/8 Teaspoon | |
| Low-fat Swiss cheese - 2 tablespoons shredded | ||
Directions
GETTING READY
1) Peel turnips and quarter them.
2) Preheat oven moderate to 15 minutes.
MAKING
3) In a saucepan heat water and steam turnips and onion for 10 minutes.
4) Put into a large bowl.
5) In a 1-quart saucepan, whisk the flour with about 2 tablespoons of milk until smooth.
6) Add remaining milk and whisk.
7) Whisk and cook over medium heat until thick.
8) Mix thyme, nutmeg, and pepper.
9) Pour the sauce over the turnips and mix.
10) Take a 1 1/2-quart casserole and grease with nonstick spray.
11) Pour it over turnip mixture.
12) Sprinkle cheese over it.
13) Bake for 15 minutes.

14) Serve warm.
