Ingredients

 
1 can (14 oz-) or about 1 3/4 cups freshly made chicken broth
 
2 packages (10 oz. each) frozen chopped broccoli
 
1 small bay leaf
 
2/4 cup butter or margarine
 
1/4 cup flour
 
1/4 teaspoon salt
 
Dash pepper
 
2 cups milk

Directions

Pour the chicken broth over the broccoli in a 3-quart pan and add bay leaf.
Bring to a boil and simmer gently about 5 minutes, or until broccoli is tender.
Meanwhile, melt butter in a frying pan and stir in flour, salt, and pepper; cook about 1 minute, stirring.
Gradually add the milk, stirring to make a smooth sauce.
Remove from heat.
Remove bay leaf from broccoli mixture and pour broccoli and liquid into blender container, a portion at a time; whirl until smooth.
Force mixture through a fine wire strainer back into the pan; stir in the milk sauce.
Heat to simmering.
