Cracked Wheat Pilaf Recipe
This Cracked Wheat Pilaf is a regular dinner option for me! A delicious substitiute for rice, this Cracked Wheat Pilaf tastes good with green salads, seasonings and relishes. Try it out and tell me if you like it !
Ingredients
4 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 small onion, chopped
1 cup cracked wheat
3 chicken bouillon cubes
2 1/2 cups hot water
1/2 cup vermicelli pieces (optional)
3/4 teaspoon onion salt
3 tablespoons chopped parsley
1 teaspoon thyme
Directions
Melt the butter or margarine over medium heat in a 2quart saucepan.
Add the onion, and saute lightly.
Add cracked wheat, stirring to coat the kernels with butter.
Stir until lightly toasted, about 5 minutes.
Dissolve bouillon cubes in hot water, and add to the cracked wheat.
Add vermicelli pieces, onion salt, chopped parsley, and thyme.
Cover, and simmer for 30 minutes or until tender.
NOTE: Any grain may be substituted for the wheat.
