Cornish Fairings Recipe
Ingredients
| 100 g/4 oz plain flour | ||
| Baking powder | 1 Teaspoon | |
| Soda bicarbonate | 1 Teaspoon | |
| Ground ginger | 1 Teaspoon | |
| Ground cinnamon | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| 50 g/2 oz butter or margarine | ||
| 50 g/2 oz caster sugar | ||
| Golden syrup | 3 Tablespoon | |
Directions
Lightly grease two baking trays.
Sift the flour, baking powder, bicarbonate of soda and spices into a bowl.
Rub in the butter or margarine until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.
Stir in the sugar, then warm the syrup in a saucepan and stir it into the dry ingredients to give a stiff dough.
Divide the mixture into 20 and form each piece into a ball.
Place the biscuits well apart on the prepared baking trays.
Bake in a moderately hot oven (200 C, 400 F, gas 6) for 8-10 minutes, or until the fairings are golden brown.
Allow the biscuits to cool on the trays for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
