Classic Corn Pone Pie Recipe
Ingredients
| Ground beef | 1 Pound | |
| Onion | 1/3 Cup (16 tbs), chopped | |
| Shortening | 1 Tablespoon | |
| Chili powder | 6 Teaspoon | |
| Salt | 3/4 Teaspoon | |
| Worcestershire sauce | 1 Teaspoon | |
| 1 1/2 c. canned tomatoes or 1 c. tomato sauce | ||
| Kidney beans | 1 Cup (16 tbs), drained | |
| 1 box corn bread mix or favorite recipe for corn bread | ||
Directions
Brown ground beef and onion in shortening.
Add seasonings and tomatoes and cook for 10 minutes.
Add kidney beans.
Pour into greased 11/2-quart casserole.
Top with corn br ead prepared according to package directions.
Bake 20 minutes or until corn bread is done in 425-degree oven.
Leftover chili is a delicious substitute for meat mixture.
Simply heat; top with corn bread and continue as above.
