Ingredients

 
1 cup flour
 
1 cup yellow cornmeal
 
1/2 teaspoon salt
 
2 tablespoons sugar (optional)
 
4 teaspoons baking powder
 
2 eggs, beaten
 
1 cup milk
 
1/3 cup butter, melted

Directions

Mix all dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
Make a well in the center.
Combine eggs, milk, and butter and add to the dry ingredients.
Stir until smooth.Butter an 8-inch-square baking pan.
Pour in the batter.
Place in a 425° F oven and bake 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
Cut into 12-16 squares.
