Ingredients

 1/4 cup shortening, butter or margarine
 Sugar1 Tablespoon
 1 egg, slightly beaten
 Salt1 Teaspoon
 Corn meal1 Cup (16 tbs)
 Flour1 Cup (16 tbs), sifted
 Baking powder3 Teaspoon
 Milk1 Cup (16 tbs)
 Extra butter or margarine for baking pan

Directions

1. Start oven, set at Hot, 425° F. Grease an 8-inch square pan.
2. Cream the shortening, butter or margarine, add the sugar, egg and salt and mix thoroughly.
3. Sift the flour with the baking powder and combine with the corn meal. Add alternately to the creamed mixture with the milk.
4. Bake about 30 minutes.
