Ingredients
4 cups sour cherries, pitted
2 cups water
1 1/2 cups red wine
1/2 cup sugar
3 cloves
1 stick cinnamon, crumbled
A little freshly grated nutmeg
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 lemon
1/2 cup sour cream
Thin lemon slices
Directions
Chop cherries in food processor or blender until just chopped.
Place in bowl and refrigerate.
Into a saucepan put water, wine, sugar, cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
Cook while stirring for 5 minutes, then strain.
Mix together cornstarch and the juice of 1/2 lemon to make a paste.
Whisk it into the strained mixture.
Bring to a boil to thicken slightly.
Cool by stirring over a bowl of ice.
Add the chopped cherries.
Mix well.
