Coconut Flan - Approved by Actual Miami Cubans Recipe Video

I threw this quick video together to accompany my December 23, 2007 Nowlive radio show, promoting my book, Eat What You Want and Die Like a Man - The World's Unhealthiest Cookbook. It's an original recipe for coconut flan. If you can make it to Nowlive, I'm on at 9 Eastern. Here's the URL: http://www.nowlive.com/memberasp/member.asp?id=100223443

Recipe Story

I knew a girl who used to go to restaurants and buy entire coconut flans for 40 bucks. I sat down and wrote down this recipe, and it's better than the restaurant flan, and it saved her a lot of cash. It will also give you heart disease and kill you. I live in Miami, and my Cuban friends will do anything to get my flan.

Ingredients

Publisher doesn't allow me to list them, but they're named in the video.

Directions

Preheat oven to 350. Place 1.5"-deep water bath on bottom rack. Make sure water is at boiling temperature. Blend wet ingredients and salt with mixer. Caramelize sugar over high heat and coat bottom of 9" Pyrex dish. Place dish in bath. Pour ingredients into dish. Add 1/3 package of Baker's coconut flakes, and make sure they sink below the surface. They will spread themselves as the flan cooks. Lower temperature to 325 immediately, and cook for 45 minutes. Test for doneness before removing. Cool in refrigerator. Separate from Pyrex by running knife around edge. Invert onto plate. Slice and serve. You may wish to make caramel syrup from the caramel stuck to the dish, to pour on the flan.
