Coconut Diamonds Recipe

Ingredients
1/2 cup soft butter or margarine
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup sifted enriched flour
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup brown sugar

1 3 1/2-ounce can (1 1/4 cups) flaked coconut
1 cup broken California walnuts
Directions
Layer 1.
Cream together butter, 1/2 cup brown sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
Stir in 1 cup flour.
Pat dough into ungreased 13x9x2 inch pan.
Bake in moderate oven (350°) 12 to 15 minutes or till lightly browned.
Layer 2.
Meanwhile beat egg slightly; add vanilla.
Gradually add 1 cup brown sugar, beating just till blended.
Add 2 tablespoons flour and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
Stir in coconut and walnuts.
Spread over baked layer.
Bake 20 to 25 minutes longer or till toothpick comes out clean.
Cool.
If desired, frost with lemon confectioners icing.
Cut in diamonds or squares.
