Classic Marinara Sauce Recipe
Ingredients
| Extra virgin olive oil | 1/4 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Garlic | 3 Clove (5gm), peeled | |
| Tomato Paste | 1 Tablespoon | |
| One 35-ounce can whole peeled Italian tomatoes with their juices, crushed by hand | ||
| Pinch of sugar | ||
| 2 basil sprigs | ||
| Ground pepper | 1 To taste | |
| Salt | To Taste | |
Directions
In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil.
Add the garlic cloves and cook over moderate heat, stirring occasionally, until golden, about 5 minutes.
Add the tomato paste and cook, stirring, for 1 minute.
Add the crushed canned tomatoes with their juices.
Stir in the sugar and basil sprigs, season with salt and pepper and bring to a boil.
Simmer the sauce over low heat, stirring occasionally, until it has thickened and is reduced to 3 cups, about 30 minutes.
Taste and season again with salt and pepper.
Remove and discard the basil sprigs and garlic cloves and serve.
