Clam Casserole Recipe

Ingredients
1 can (about 8 ounces) minced clams
Milk
6 tablespoons (3/4 stick) butter or margarine
2 tablespoons all purpose flour
1 egg
1 cup fine soft bread crumbs.
Directions
Drain liquid from clams into a 2 cup measure; add milk to make 11/2 cups.
Melt half of the butter or margarine in a medium size saucepan; stir in flour.
Cook, stirring constantly, until bubbly.
Stir in the 1 1/2 cups milk mixture; continue cooking and stirring until mixture thickens and bubbles 2 minutes; remove from heat; cool.
Beat in egg and clams.
Melt remaining butter or margarine in a small skillet; stir in bread crumbs.
Heat slowly, shaking skillet constantly, until crumbs are lightly toasted.
Spoon half into a greased 4 cup baking dish; top with clam mixture; sprinkle with remaining buttered crumb mixture.
Bake in moderate oven (350°) for 30 minutes, or until heated through.
