 Baking powder1 1/2 Teaspoon
 Salt1/2 Teaspoon
 Milk1/2 Cup (16 tbs)
 Brown sugar1/2 Cup (16 tbs) (Filling and Topping)
 Cinnamon1 Tablespoon (Filling and Topping)
 Walnuts1/4 Cup (16 tbs), chopped (Filling and Topping)
 Flour1 Tablespoon (Filling and Topping)
 Melted butter1/4 Cup (16 tbs) (Filling and Topping)
 Dates1/4 Cup (16 tbs), chopped (Filling and Topping)

Directions

Cream shortening and sugar thoroughly.
Add egg and beat well.
Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with milk.
Spread half the batter into a greased 8 x 8 pan.
Spread half the filling (combined in order listed and not cooked) over the batter.
Top with remaining batter and spread rest of filling mix over top.
Bake in a 350° oven for 45 minutes.
