Ingredients

 Butter stick1 , softened
 1/2 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
 Egg1
 Vanilla extract1 Teaspoon
 Flour1 Cup (16 tbs)
 1/4 cup finely ground almonds
 Cinnamon1/4 Teaspoon
 Ground ginger1/2 Teaspoon
 Ground allspice1/2 Teaspoon
 Nutmeg1/2 Teaspoon, grated
 Salt1/4 Teaspoon
 Powdered sugar1/2 Cup (16 tbs)
 Orange juice2 Teaspoon

Directions

1. In a medium bowl, beat butter and brown sugar with an electric mixer on medium speed until light and flurry. Beat in egg and vanilla until well blended.
2. Add flour mixed with almonds, cinnamon, ginger, allspice, nutmeg, and salt and beat until blended. Shape dough into 2 logs 8 inches long. Tightly wrap in wax paper and refrigerate at least 1 hour, until firm.
3. Preheat oven to 400°F. Cut logs into 3/8-inch-thick slices and place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 8 to 10 minutes, or until bottoms begin to color. Let cookies cool on sheets 2 minutes, then remove to a rack and let cool completely.
4. In a small bowl, stir together powdered sugar and enough orange juice to make an icing of spreading consistency. Spread on completely cooled cookies.
