Chunky-Style Split-Pea Soup With Ham Recipe

Ingredients
1 pound dried split peas
6 cups hot water
1 pound smoked ham hocks
3 carrots, cut into 1/2 inch cubes
2 potatoes, cut into 1/2 inch cubes
1 onion, chopped
2 stalks celery, chopped
2 teaspoons salt
12 peppercorns
Parmesan cheese, grated, for garnish
Directions
Combine all ingredients except cheese in the slow cooker.
Cover and cook on low 5 to 6 hours.
Turn heat to high and cook an ad ditional 1 to 1 1/2 hours or until peas and vegetables are tender.
Remove ham; cube meat and return it to soup.
Stir to mash some of the peas and thicken soup.
Add additional water if you wish to thin the consistency.
Garnish with grated Parmesan cheese when served.
