Ingredients

 Active dry yeast1/2 Tablespoon
 Warm water2 Tablespoon
 Milk1/3 Cup (16 tbs)
 Sugar2 Tablespoon
 Salt1/2 Teaspoon
 Unsalted butter3 Tablespoon, softened
 Cardamom1/2 Teaspoon
 Flour2 1/2 Cup (16 tbs)
 Egg1
 Confectioners' Icing, if desired
 Candied cherries

Directions

1 Dissolve yeast in warm water. Set aside for 5 minutes. Heat milk, sugar, salt, butter, and cardamom to warm (105°€”115°F).
2 Combine 1 cup flour, milk mixture, and yeast mixture in mixing bowl. Mix thoroughly.
3 Add egg and enough remaining flour to make a soft dough. Knead on lightly floured surface until smooth€”about 10 minutes.
4 Place in greased bowl, turning to coat top. Cover; let rise in warm place until double€”about 1 hour.
5 Punch down dough. Divide dough into 17 equal pieces and make balls. Form Christmas tree as in previous recipe on greased baking sheet.
6 Cover; let rise in warm place until double€”about 30 minutes.
7 Bake in a preheated 350°F oven 20€”25 minutes or until done. Cool on wire rack.
8 If desired, drizzle with Confectioners' Icing. Decorate with candied cherries.
