Christmas Gumdrop Cake Recipe

| 2 lbs. chopped fruit gumdrops | ||
| Pecans and walnuts | 1/2 Pound, chopped | |
| 1 lb. white raisins | ||
| Flour | 4 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Sugar | 2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Shortening | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Eggs | 2 , Well beaten | |
| Cinnamon | 1 Teaspoon | |
| Cloves | 1/4 Teaspoon | |
| Nutmeg | 1/4 Teaspoon | |
| Salt | 1/4 Teaspoon | |
| 1 tsp. baking soda dissolved in 1/4 cup hot water | ||
| Applesauce | 1 1/2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
Directions
Cream sugar and shortening; add eggs and applesauce alternately with dry ingredients which have been sifted together.
Add fruit, nuts and raisins which have been dredged in a little of the flour mixture.
Line 3 loaf pans with wax paper, bake 2 hours at 275°.
Cool for 15 minutes, pull wax paper off carefully.
