Baking powder and baking soda are not the same thing, baking powder you put with all purpose flour to make self raising flour.Baking soda makes a recipe fizz use it to make gingerbread etc.

Baking powder serves the same purpose as baking soda, so I think you can use either. Some people use a combination of both.

This recipe is not written well and it is confusing. First, ingredients call for baking soda and powder..but directions only indicate when to put in soda. When to put in powder? Then, directions indicate to put sugar into butter, then I get to chocolate part and it calls for more sugar! How much? At then end, it does not instruct you how to swirl the batters together. The cake did not take 20 minutes, it took 40 minutes. And folks, its not helpful to rate a recipe that you havent tried! Yeah, the pic is nice, but how does it taste and were the ingredients and instructions helpful? My cake is done and I rate the taste of the cake 3-4 stars but the recipe itself brings it to a 2 star.
