Molten Chocolate Lava Cake Recipe Video

Legend has it that this dessert was the result of a major catering disaster. The dessert for this particular event was to be individual chocolate cakes, but someone took them out of the ovens to soon and the centers where not cooked enough and still liquefied. Well, there was no time to take them off the plates and cook them more, so the Chef simply had his wait staff introduce the dessert as Chocolate “Lava” Cake! Brilliant! Now, whether this is true or not, I don’t know for sure, but it totally sounds like something a Chef would do. If you have a better story email it to me and I’ll start using it. Regardless of how it was born, it sure is good. I used very dark chocolate, but you can use semi-sweet or milk chocolate if you prefer. If you’ve watch my clips regularly you know I’m not big on measuring ingredients, BUT when you’re doing baked desserts you really do need to be accurate. So measure carefully. By the way, this was a view request and the photo he sent me (pictured above with the fruit) had no copyright info with it. I did use it in the clip and hopefully no one gets too upset. If you did happen to take this photo, and are upset I’m using it without permission, please email my legal department at info@idont_have_alegal_department.com. Enjoy!

Ingredients

Eggs - 2. extra large

Egg yolk - 1, extra large

Butter - 5 tablespoons

Sugar - 3 tablespoons

Dark chocolate - 3.5 ounces

flour - 3 tablespoons

Cocoa powder - 2 teaspoons

Directions

GETTING READY
1) Preheat oven to temperature of 425 degrees.

MAKING
2) Melt the chocolate and butter together in a microwave set on MEDIUM or as preferred.
3) In a mixing bowl, whisk together the egg yolk, eggs and sugar. Cream the ingredients together. This usually takes about 4 minutes.
4) Add the melted chocolate butter mixture and mix well.
5) Sift the flour and cocoa powder into the chocolate mixture. Add a pinch of salt if preferred.
6) Fold all the ingredients together thoroughly.
7) Grease 4 small ramekins with lots of butter and add the batter. Tap the ramekins down gently in order to avoid any air bubbles that might form in the batter.
8) Put the ramekins in the fridge and let them chill completely.
9) In a baking dish, put about an inch of water and then put the ramekins in.
10) Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes.
11) Let the baked cakes stand for 15 minutes.

SERVING
12) Serve the cake at room temperature. You can either serve the cake while it is still in the ramekin or unmold onto a plate. Dust the top of the cakes with some sugar before serving.

I was not smart enough to find the exact measurements on the ingredients. I suppose I just kept overlooking it. The video gives good directions, but I really would have the directions in a text form.
