4 ounces bittersweet chocolate or semisweet chocolate, cut up
 
2 tablespoons margarine or butter
 
3/4 cup milk
 
1/2 cup sugar
 
2 tablespoons corn syrup
 
2 to 4 tablespoons liqueur, such as orange, hazelnut, or amaretto (optional)

Directions

1 In a medium, heavy saucepan cook chocolate and margarine or butter over low heat until melted, stirring frequently. Add milk, sugar, and corn syrup. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat. Boil gently, stirring frequently, for 8 minutes or until mixture is thickened. Remove from heat. Cool slightly. If desired, stir in liqueur.
