2 cups all purposeflour
 
1/3 cup cocoa powder (not a mix)
 
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
 
1/2 teaspoon salt
 
1 cup vegetable shortening
 
1 cup sugar
 
2 eggs
 
1 teaspoon vanilla
 
Sugar

Directions

1. Measure flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt into sifter.
2. Beat shortening with the 1 cup sugar in a large bowl with an electric mixer at high speed until fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla.
3. Sift in dry ingredients; blend until well mixed. Shape dough into 1-inch balls, using hands.
4. Place balls, 3 inches apart, on cookie sheet. Dip a glass into sugar; press into balls to flatten.
5. Bake in moderate oven (350°) 10 minutes, or until cookies are firm. Remove to wire racks with spatula.
