Ingredients

 
2 cups packed brown sugar
 
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
 
2 eggs
 
2 teaspoons vanilla
 
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
 
1 teaspoon baking soda
 
1 teaspoon salt
 
3 cups quick-cooking rolled oats
 
1 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
 
1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate pieces
 
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
 
1/2 teaspoon salt
 
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
 
2 teaspoons vanilla

Directions

In large bowl cream together brown sugar and 1 cup butter till fluffy.
Add eggs and 2 teaspoons vanilla; beat well.
Stir together flour, soda, and 1 teaspoon salt; stir in oats.
Stir into creamed mixture till blended.
Set aside.
In heavy saucepan heat together sweetened condensed milk, chocolate, 2 tablespoons butter, and 1/2 teaspoon salt over low heat, stirring till smooth.
Remove from heat; stir in nuts and 2 teaspoons vanilla.
Pat 2/3 of the oat mixture in bottom of ungreased 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x1-inch baking pan.
Spread chocolate mixture over oat layer; dot with remaining oat mixture.
Bake at 350°for 25 to 30 minutes.
Cool; cut into bars
