Chocolate Pear Shortcake Recipe

Ingredients
1 chocolate fudge spongecake
2 1/2 cups canned pear halves
1/2 cup rum syrup
1 cup custard
3 cups chocolate Chantilly cream
4 oz semisweet chocolate
1/4 cup butter
Directions
Prepare shortcake following basic recipe but replacing vanilla spongecake with chocolate spongecake.
Set aside 8 pear halves for decoration.
Brush 2 cake layers with rum syrup.
Spread first layer with custard, remaining pears and chocolate Chantilly cream.
Cover with second cake layer.
Coat with chocolate Chantilly cream.
In a double boiler, melt chocolate.
Add butter.
Mix off heat.
Dip 8 reserved pear halves in melted chocolate.
Place symmetrically on top of cake.
Garnish with chocolate Chantilly cream.
