Ingredients
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 1/4 cups sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/3 cup butter or margarine
2 (1 ounce) squares unsweetened chocolate
1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Directions
Combine first 7 ingredients in a large bowl, mixing well; set aside.
Melt butter and chocolate in a heavy saucepan over low heat.
Add chocolate mixture, applesauce, eggs, and walnuts to flour mixture; mix well.
Pour batter into a greased and floured 9 x 5 x 3 inch loaf pan.
Bake at 350° for 50 to 55 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.
Cool bread in pan 10 minutes; remove from pan, and cool completely on a wire rack.
