Choco-Date Cake Recipe
Choco-Date Cake is a chewy rich cake for the kiddies. You can even add this to your party menu. The Choco-Date Cake is rich with the flavors of dates, cocoa, butter and nuts. Give this yummy treat a try, you will happy that you did!
Ingredients
8 oz. pkg. (1 1/2 cups) chopped dates
1 1/2 teaspoons soda
2 cups boiling water
2 3/4 cups Pillsburys Best All Purpose or Unbleached Flour
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa
1 teaspoon vanilla
3/4 cup solid shortening or margarine, softened
3 eggs
6 oz. pkg. (1 cup) semi sweet chocolate pieces
1/2 cup chopped nuts
Directions
In large bowl, combine dates and soda.
Pour boiling water over mixture; cool 5 minutes.
Grease (not oil) and flour 12 cup fluted tube pan (non stick finish pan, tot)).
Preheat oven to 350°F (325°F for colored pan).
(Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off.) Into date mixture, blend remaining ingredients except chocolate pieces and nuts.
Beat 3 minutes at medium speed, scraping bowl occasionally.
Stir in chocolate pieces and nuts.
Pour into prepared pan.
Bake 60 to 70 minutes until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
Cool upright in pan 5 minutes; turn onto serving plate.
Cool.
Sprinkle with powdered sugar or serve warm cake slices topped with whipped cream.
