Chip-Nut Cocoa Cake Recipe
Of all the courses Dessert happens to be my favorite and Chip-nut Cocoa Cake the recipe that represents it. I have a weakness for Nuts, thus I prepare this recipe often. Ingredients
1 cup finely chopped dates
1 cup boiling water
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 3/4 cups sifted flour
1/4 cup Baker's Cocoa
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup chopped nuts, optional
1 cup (6 oz. package) Baker's Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
Directions
Mix together dates, water, and soda.
Cool.
Sift flour, cocoa, and salt together.
Cream shortening thoroughly.
Add sugar gradually and cream together until light and fluffy.
Add the eggs and vanilla; beat well.
Then add flour alternately with the date mixture, beating after each addition.
Pour batter into a 15 x 10 x 1 inch pan which has been greased on the bottom.
Sprinkle nuts and chips over top and press lightly into batter.
Bake in moderate oven (350°F.) 25 to 30 minutes.
Cool and cut in bars.
