Ingredients

 
12 ounces fresh or frozen shelled shrimp
 
2 tablespoons salad oil
 
1 7-ounce package frozen
 
Chinese pea pods, thawed, or 2 cups fresh Chinese pea pods
 
2 tablespoons thinly sliced green onion and tops
 
2 teaspoons shredded peeled gingerroot or 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
 
1 clove garlic, minced
 
1 teaspoon cornstarch
 
1/2 teaspoon sugar
 
1 teaspoon soy sauce

Directions

Thaw frozen shrimp.
Heat oil in heavy skillet till bubbly; add shrimp and cook quickly till pink, 3 to 5 minutes.
Add pea pods, onion, ginger, and garlic; toss and cook over high heat for 1 minute.
Combine cornstarch, sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
Add soy sauce and 2 teaspoons cold water, mixing till smooth.
Pour over shrimp mixture; toss and cook till thickened and clear, about 1 minute.
Pass additional soy sauce, if desired.
