Chinese Green Pepper Steak Recipe

Ingredients

 
1 lb (500 g) steak in one piece or thinly sliced
 
3 tbsp (50 mL) salad oil
 
1 garlic clove, chopped fine
 
1 onion, chopped
 
2 green peppers, slivered
 
1/2 tsp (2 mL) salt
 
1/4 tsp (1 mL) pepper
 
1 tbsp (15 mL) fresh ginger, grated
 
1 tbsp (15 mL) cornstarch
 
1 cup (250 mL) consomme of your choice
 
1 tbsp (15 mL) soy sauce
 
1 tsp (5 mL) sugar

Directions

Slice the steak diagonally as thinly as possible.
Microwave the oil in a browning dish (Corning) 2 minutes at HIGH.
Add the garlic and microwave 40 seconds at HIGH.
Add the meat, stir well in the hot oil.
Microwave 2 minutes at HIGH.
Place the meat around the dish.
Set the onion, green pepper, salt, pepper and the ginger in the cen-tre.
Stir the whole without disturbing the meat.
Cover with a waxed paper and microwave 5 minutes at MEDIUM-HIGH.
Mix together the cornstarch, consomme, soy sauce and sugar.
Pour over all after the 5-minute cooking period.
Mix together the meat and vegetables.
Micro-wave 2 to 3 minutes at MEDIUM-HIGH stirring after 2 minutes.
The dish is ready when the sauce is transparent.
Stir and serve.
