 Margarine2 Ounce
 Brown sugar2 Ounce
 Self raising flour4 Ounce
 Cherries2 Ounce, chopped
 Icing sugar
 1 dessertspoon syrup or treacle
 Egg1
 Dates4 Ounce, chopped
 Walnuts2 Ounce, chopped
 2 oz. chopped peel
 Grated lemon rind

Directions

Sieve flour, rub in the margarine.
Add all the other ingredients.
Grease and flour a square shallow tin, measuring 7 or 8 inches across.
Put in the cake mixture at 400 °F.-Gas Mark 5 for about 25-35 minutes.
Remove from tin.
Cut into fingers and dredge with icing sugar.
