Chinese Barbecued Spareribs Recipe

Ingredients
4 pounds spareribs
1 cup soy sauce
1/2 cup water
3 tablespoons red wine
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 clove garlic, mashed
Directions
1. Score the meat between the ribs, but do not cut all the way through.
2. Place the meat in a large bowl. Combine the remaining ingredients and pour over the ribs. Let stand one hour, turning once. Remove the meat from the marinade. Reserve the liquid.
3. Place the ribs on a grill over medium coals and cook about one and one-half hours. Turn the meat frequently and brush with the marinade. Cut with scissors into individual ribs, if desired.
Spareribs may be baked and basted in a roasting pan in a moderate (350° F.) oven for one and one-half hours.
