Chicken Hariyali Recipe

Chicken Hariyali literally means Green Chicken. This dish has got its obvious name since it is cooked in green herbs gravy. The cilantro and mint paste give 'Chicken Hariyali' a healthy twist. Easy to cook and tasty to eat, it surely is a way to get some greens into your system!

Ingredients

 
Chicken Breast Pieces - 4
 
Chopped Onions - 1 cup
 
Ginger Garlic paste - 1 tsp
 
Cinnamon sticks - 4 small
 
Cloves - 7-8
 
Cilantro/Coriander/Dhaniya - half bunch (1 cup chopped)
 
Mint/Pudina - 5-6 sprigs
 
Dried Fenugreek/Kasoori Methi - 2 tbs
 
Turmeric powder - 2 pinches
 
Salt and Chilly powder - to taste

Directions

Cut boneless chicken breasts into small cubes/desired size and marinade with ginger garlic paste, turmeric powder, salt and chilly powder for at least 30 minutes.
Grind cilantro, mint and fenugreek with one cup water into a smooth paste. Add more water if needed. Keep aside.
Heat 3 tbs oil in a skillet. When hot, add cinnamon sticks, cloves and onions and saute until onions fry well.
Add marinated chicken pieces and fry until chicken is 3/4rth cooked.
Add ground paste, cover with lid and continue cooking for 2-3 minutes.
Uncover and check if chicken has cooked thoroughly. Continue cooking until the water evaporates and gravy begins to thicken.
Serve Hot with Steamed Rice or any Indian Flat Bread.

I prepared yesrterday for dinner to make my husband happy...........n honestly it worked.I made little changes, while frying onions, I added cumin and saunf powder too.You people give a try.

Thanks for the feedback petal. Using yogurt in the marinade is a good idea. It also acts as a tenderizer.

Hey, I tried it today and it came out pretty good. Its finished already :). I made some slight modifications, i marinated the chicken in yogurt, spices, and ginger garlic. Everything else was the same. Thanks for posting !:) P
