Peppery Chicken A La King Recipe

Ingredients

 
1 large broiler chicken
 
1 teaspoon salt
 
15 black peppercorns
 
1 yellow onion, chopped
 
1 piece of leek
 
1 bay leaf
 
4-5 cloves
 
1 pound bacon
 
1 pound shrimp
 
1 red pepper
 
1 green pepper
 
Curry Sauce:
 
4 tablespoons butter
 
1 teaspoon curry powder
 
1 teaspoon paprika
 
4 tablespoons flour
 
2 cups Chicken Stock
 
1 chicken bouillon cube
 
1/2 cup heavy cream
 
1 tablespoon mango chutney or soy sauce
 
3 tablespoons dry white wine

Directions

1. Place the chicken in a large saucepan. Pour on enough water to cover chicken. Add salt, peppercorns, onion, leek, bay leaf, and cloves. Bring water to a boil. Cover and simmer 1 hour.
2. Meanwhile cut the peppers into strips.
3. Shell and devein shrimp.
4. Let chicken cool and strain liquid. Remove skin and bones. Cut meat in small pieces.
5. Fry bacon till crisp. Set aside.
6. Make sauce. Heat butter in a skillet over low heat. Add curry and paprika and stir in the flour. Add chicken stock a cup at a time, stirring until smooth. Add the bouillon cube and heat for 5 minutes.
7. Add cream, chicken meat, peppers, and shrimp and cook for an additional 5 minutes till shrimp turn pink. Add mango chutney and wine. Top dish with crisply fried bacon.
