Ingredients

 8 oz. self-raising flour
 Baking powder1 1/2 Teaspoon (Leveled)
 Mixed spice1/4 Teaspoon (Leveled)
 Ground ginger1/4 Teaspoon (Leveled)
 Butter/Margarine4 Ounce
 4 oz. soft dark brown sugar
 Cherries6 Ounce, halved
 1/2 tbsp. black treacle
 Egg1 , beaten
 Buttermilk1/4 Pint

Directions

GETTING READY
1. With greased greaseproof paper, line a 9"X5" loaf tin

MAKING
2. Into a basin, sift the flour, spices and baking powder
3. Rub in butter or argarine ot the flour until it attains a crumbly texture
4. To this add the sugar and cherries
5. Mix the treacle, egg and buttermilk together and add them to the dry ingredients; blend well adn turn it into the prepared loaf tin
6. Bake it in the oven at 350°F for one or one and a quarter hour
7. Turn it out on a wire rack and allow to cool

SERVING
8. Serve as required
